North West Photo Fest

Photo walks and Workshops Saturday August 12 and Sunday, August 13,

These photo walks and workshops are designed to be fun opportunities for photographers of all skill levels.

Note this list is still being finalized. The walks and workshops are still going ahead but may be subject to last minute changes due to weather or availability of photographers or guides. Please check back on this blog page for any updates.

Saturday August 12.

Astrophotography. Perseid Meteor Shower with Malcolm Park

Space.com August 2017 Brings Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid meteor shower originates in the northeastern sky and streak toward the south and west.
If conditions are good, photographers should be able to see the meteors over Kitimat Harbour as the Milky Way rises in the south over Douglas Channel.

Sunday August 13 Photo walks

Most photo walks will go from about 10:00 am to 1:30 pm

Note: Low tide on Sunday August 13 is at 12:35 pm. Low tide is one of the best times to photograph birds.

Beginner photo walk Pine Creek Trail with Andy Clark. Easy hike so beginners can take their time to take photographs and learn techniques.

Intermediate photo walk. North Cove Trail with Jim Thorne. Moderate hike. A little more challenging photographs.

Birds at Kitimat Dump. With Colin Horabin.

Colin has been photographing birds at dumps as part of a project for a number of years, so this is a chance to put into practice what he will speak about at his Saturday seminar at Riverlodge. All skill levels.

Long lens workshop at Kitamaat Village with Jay Gough.

Take advantage of Jay Gough from Nikon’s expertise on long lenses from an ideal bird photography location at Kitamaat Village. This may be followed by other photo opportunities at the village with a guide from the Haisla Nation (details are still being arranged). All skill levels.

Lakelse Lake photo walk with Brandon Broderick. Aimed mainly for residents of Terrace, this photo walk is a relaxing morning aimed at all skill levels.

 

CANCELLED Sunday August 13. Basketball photography workshop

9 am to 12 pm. All skill levels.

North West Photo Fest Exhibit Call for Entries

Third Annual North West Photo Fest
Exhibition: August 11 – September 30, 2017

You are invited to submit one image, for the exhibition, on the theme:
“Canada 150: Being Canadian – What Does it Mean to You”
August 11 – September 30, 2017

Registration entry forms must be received by July 28.
Exhibit pieces delivered for installation on: August 7, 2017

The photo exhibit this year will focus on the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday while at the same time remaining true to themes celebrating the British Columbia northwest and honouring small town life. To participate in the North West Photo Fest exhibit you must be a resident of the BC northwest.

The opening reception of the 2017 North West Photo Fest exhibit, will be held at the Kitimat Museum & Archives on Friday. August 11. 2017 at 7:30 pm. No tickets required.
