Here’s the lineup for the North West Photo Fest photo walks and practical workshops

Photo walks and Workshops Saturday August 12 and Sunday, August 13,

These photo walks and workshops are designed to be fun opportunities for photographers of all skill levels.

Note this list is still being finalized. The walks and workshops are still going ahead but may be subject to last minute changes due to weather or availability of photographers or guides. Please check back on this blog page for any updates.

Saturday August 12.

Astrophotography. Perseid Meteor Shower with Malcolm Park

Space.com August 2017 Brings Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid meteor shower originates in the northeastern sky and streak toward the south and west.
If conditions are good, photographers should be able to see the meteors over Kitimat Harbour as the Milky Way rises in the south over Douglas Channel.

Sunday August 13 Photo walks

Most photo walks will go from about 10:00 am to 1:30 pm

Note: Low tide on Sunday August 13 is at 12:35 pm. Low tide is one of the best times to photograph birds.

Beginner photo walk Pine Creek Trail with Andy Clark. Easy hike so beginners can take their time to take photographs and learn techniques.

Intermediate photo walk. North Cove Trail with Jim Thorne. Moderate hike. A little more challenging photographs.

Birds at Kitimat Dump. With Colin Horabin.

Colin has been photographing birds at dumps as part of a project for a number of years, so this is a chance to put into practice what he will speak about at his Saturday seminar at Riverlodge. All skill levels.

Long lens workshop at Kitamaat Village with Jay Gough.

Take advantage of Jay Gough from Nikon’s expertise on long lenses from an ideal bird photography location at Kitamaat Village. This may be followed by other photo opportunities at the village with a guide from the Haisla Nation (details are still being arranged). All skill levels.

Lakelse Lake photo walk with Brandon Broderick. Aimed mainly for residents of Terrace, this photo walk is a relaxing morning aimed at all skill levels.

Here’s the Saturday, August 12 lineup for North West Photo Fest seminars and workshops

Join us Saturday, August 12 for a full day of exciting and fun workshops and seminars, including talks by our special guests.
So you don’t have to leave Riverlodge, Save-on-Foods will be be providing lunch for the Lunch ‘n’ Learn.

Candice Ward is the fourth special guest at North West Photo Fest 2017

Candice Ward is a freelance sports photographer based out of Calgary, Ab.

Over the past nine years, she has covered a number of sporting events that include the Stanley Cup Playoffs, WHL Playoffs, a number of Grey Cup Championships and more. Candice was also recently named to the CAAWS (Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity) “Most Influential Women in Sports in Canada” list for the media category for 2016.

The citation for the award says, in part:

Ward also collaborates with local female athletes to provide them with unique and creative shots to help market themselves in the sporting world. This includes the National Ski Jump team as well as women involved in sport recreationally, to give them an empowering opportunity to see themselves in a unique light. As a woman of Indigenous descent, Ward serves as a role model to young women looking to pursue their dreams.

Candice’s images have been published in a number of publications around North America and Internationally. She is also currently the team photographer for the Calgary Hitmen (WHL) and Calgary Roughnecks (NLL).

Candice is a member of the Kehewin Cree Nation born in Bonnyvile. Ab.

In her spare time, she is an active basketball player and loves to spend time with her dog Juno.
